Booking a hotel sounds simple until you're 20 tabs deep comparing prices that don't quite match once taxes are added. Here are five habits that consistently save our customers money.
1. Compare the total price, not the listed price
A room listed at ₹2,499 can end up at ₹3,100 after taxes and a "convenience fee." Always check the final payable amount before comparing two hotels — that's the number that matters.
2. Book 3-4 weeks ahead for weekend trips, but watch last-minute drops for weekdays
Weekend getaways to places like Goa, Lonavala or Rishikesh fill up fast — book early. But weekday stays sometimes see price drops in the final 48-72 hours if a hotel is trying to fill empty rooms.
3. Check the cancellation policy before you save on price
A slightly cheaper non-refundable rate isn't a saving if your plans change. Unless you're certain about your dates, a free-cancellation rate is usually worth the small premium.
4. Use partial payment options where available
Some platforms, including EBO Stay, let you block a room with a partial payment and pay the rest at check-in. This is useful when you want to lock in a price without committing the full amount upfront.
5. Read the most recent reviews, not just the rating
A 4.2-star hotel with great reviews from three years ago can look very different today. Sort reviews by "most recent" and skim the last month's feedback before booking.
One more thing: call the hotel directly for long stays
If you're booking 4+ nights, it sometimes helps to call the property directly after finding it online — some hotels offer a small discount for longer stays that isn't reflected in the online price.
You can browse verified, pre-negotiated rates on our hotels page — every listing shows the final price with taxes included, no surprises at checkout.
