Rajasthan rewards travellers who don't try to see everything in one trip. This itinerary covers three of its most iconic cities at a pace that leaves room to actually enjoy them.
Day 1-2: Jaipur, the Pink City
Start at Amber Fort early morning before the heat and crowds set in. Spend the afternoon at City Palace and Jantar Mantar, and end the day at Nahargarh Fort for sunset views over the city. On day two, explore Hawa Mahal, the local bazaars of Johari and Bapu Bazaar for jewellery and textiles, and try a traditional Rajasthani thali for dinner.
Day 3: Travel to Udaipur
A 6-hour drive or a short flight connects Jaipur to Udaipur. If driving, consider stopping at Ajmer or Pushkar en route to break up the journey.
Day 4-5: Udaipur, the City of Lakes
City Palace overlooking Lake Pichola is the centerpiece. Take a boat ride on the lake at sunset, and visit Jagdish Temple and Saheliyon Ki Bari gardens. Udaipur is also a good place to slow down — many travellers add a spa day or a cooking class here.
Day 6: Travel to Jodhpur
About a 3-hour drive from Udaipur. Check into your hotel and spend the evening walking through the blue-painted lanes of the old city near Mehrangarh Fort.
Day 7: Jodhpur, the Blue City
Mehrangarh Fort is the highlight — one of the best-preserved forts in India, with excellent views over the blue rooftops of the old town. Visit Jaswant Thada, a marble cenotaph nearby, before heading to the clock tower market for last-minute shopping.
Getting around
A private car with driver is the most practical option for this circuit — trains exist between these cities but timings don't always align well with a 7-day window.
Best time to visit
October to March. Summers in Rajasthan (April-June) are extremely hot, often crossing 42°C in Jaipur and Jodhpur.
