When Rajasthan gets unbearable in May, everyone with sense drives up to Mount Abu — a 1,200 m high green plateau that feels like another state entirely. Here's how to do it right.
The must-dos
- Dilwara Temples — the reason to come. Marble carving so fine it looks woven (11th–13th century). Open to visitors 12–6 PM (Jain rituals in the mornings). No phones inside.
- Guru Shikhar — Rajasthan's highest point (1,722 m). The 360° Aravalli view is the best photo you'll take.
- Nakki Lake — paddle boats, the Toad Rock hike (15 mins), and the evening market around it.
- Sunset points — Honeymoon Point and Sunset Point. Go 45 minutes early for a rail-side seat.
- Achalgarh — fort ruins, the marble Jain temple and the curious "footprints" of Vishnu.
A smart 2-day plan
Day 1: Dilwara (12 PM entry) → Nakki Lake evening + market.
Day 2: Guru Shikhar + Achalgarh morning → Sunset Point evening.
When to go & how long
March–June (escape season) and September–December. Two full days is enough — it's a compact hill station. Weekends are busy; weekdays feel like a different town.
Where to stay
Everything is within a 15-minute drive — pick based on view and comfort rather than location anxiety. Compare Mount Abu stays — from ₹1,500 budget rooms to lake-facing resorts.
